# AGENTS.md

Guidance for AI coding agents working in pytest-dev/pytest. The pytest framework makes it easy to write small tests, yet scales to support complex functional testing. Written mainly in Python.

## Where things are

- Dependencies are declared in `pyproject.toml`.
- Test files are spread through the tree, e.g. `testing/_py/test_local.py`.
- Lint and format rules are configured in `pyproject.toml`.
- Type checking is configured in `pyproject.toml`.
- CI is defined in `.github/workflows`; read it for the exact install, lint and test steps.
- Commit hooks are set up in `.pre-commit-config.yaml`; don't skip them.
- Test environments are defined in `tox.ini`.
- Follow the conventions in `CONTRIBUTING.rst`.
