.aider.conf.yml: repo-level config for Aider

.aider.conf.yml is Aider's config file. Committed at the repo root, it sets Aider's options for everyone who uses it in that repo, including the lint command, the test command and extra files to read.

How many repos pass

Of the 371 repos on the leaderboard, 1 pass in full (0.3%), 0 pass in part (0%) and 370 fail (100%).

Why agents need it

Aider lints after every edit by default and runs tests after edits once a test command is set, per its lint and test docs. It does not read AGENTS.md on its own; that file only loads when the config's read: setting lists it. So this file is how a repo tells Aider what to run and what to read. Only Aider reads it, so this check only affects the Aider score.

How we score it

  • Full pass: .aider.conf.yml or .aider.conf.yaml at the repo root.
  • Fail: neither file is present. We do not look at what the file contains.

The methodology has the formula that turns checks into a score.

How to pass

Add .aider.conf.yml at the repo root. Set test-cmd and lint-cmd to the commands your CI runs, and list AGENTS.md under read: so Aider loads it.
